Following the earthquake on 25 March 2011 in Loimwe, in eastern Shan State, Myanmar, which resulted in several deaths and injuries as well as extensive damage to houses and buildings, Mr. Apirath Vienravi, Thai Ambassador to Myanmar, today at 15.30 hrs. presented Thailand's donation of Baht 3 million to U Wunna Maung Lwin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.
U Maung Myint and Dr. Myo Myint, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, as well as other high ranking officials of Myanmar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement also attended the event. Ambassador Apirath also met with the Deputy Director-General of Myanmar's Department of Relief and Resettlement to discuss other possible assistance, such as medical centers, schools and temples.
On the same day at 09.45 hrs. Admiral Wallop Kerdphol, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, presided over the ceremony at the Don Muang Air Force Base to present 5,000 humanitarian assistance kits, consisting of rice, instant food, drinking water, blankets and medicine to U Aung Thein, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand, on behalf of the Myanmar Government. The C-130 aircraft carrying the relief assistance left the airport at 10.00 hrs. and arrived at Kentung, Shan State in Myanmar at about 12.00 hrs. the same day.
